Academic Scholarships

Academic Scholarships are available to new and current students entering Years 7 and 10. The scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and ability and results from the ACER Scholarship Test.

2025 Academic Scholarship applications are now closed. 
Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for an Academic Scholarship at RGS, applicants must: 

  • Be entering Years 7 or 10 in 2025; 
  • Be current RGS students or new enrolments to the School;
  • Have a record of very good academic performance and good behaviour and effort;
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Residence Visa;
  • Register to sit the ACER Exam (further details below).
How to Apply
Step One

All applicants must register to sit the ACER Scholarship Exam.

Step Two

Once registered for the ACER Exam, all applicants are required to complete an RGS Scholarship application form, including uploading supporting documentation (outlined below). 

Step Three

Once your Scholarship application and ACER Exam registration have been processed, you will receive information from the Registrar regarding the ACER Exam. 

Step Four

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend an interview with the Headmaster. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised. 

Step Five

If a Scholarship offer is accepted, an RGS Application for Admission must be completed (new students only). 

Supporting Documents

The following supporting documents are required when submitting an RGS Scholarship application form (all students):

  • Last three Semester school reports
  • Latest NAPLAN report
  • A cover letter (single-sided, A4) from the student addressed to the Headmaster, Dr Phillip Moulds. The letter could include:
    • New students: what contributions you would make to the School and what opportunities an RGS Scholarship could provide to you.
    • Current students: why you believe you are deserving of a Scholarship and what contributions you have made to RGS during your time at the School.
ACER Exam

All Academic Scholarship applicants must register to sit the ACER Scholarship Exam.

Registrations closed on Wednesday 13 March 2024. 

Students entering Year 7 must register for Level 1.
Students entering Year 10 must register for Level 2.

Once registered, you will receive further information regarding the ACER Exam.

All applicants must sit the ACER Exam at RGS on Saturday 23 March 2024. 

Please note that registration for the ACER Scholarship exam includes a $130 registration fee payable online to ACER.

Value

Successful students will be awarded a Scholarship ranging from 25% - 100%, applicable to tuition fees, and where applicable, boarding fees. The Scholarship does not apply to any other School fees, including levies, uniforms, textbooks and supplies, co-curricular costs, excursions, camps etc.

Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Headmaster.
